Digger Hennessy, Winemaker Digger Hennessy has been making wine since 1988, much of it in Marlborough. After stints making wine in Australia and the US, he moved to Matua Valley Wines as winemaker, where he later appointed Corey. Digger moved to Mount Riley where he spent 10 years as Chief Winemaker before developing his own vineyard in Marlborough before going on to produce Harwood Hall. Digger participates in regular tastings for NZ wine and acts as a consultant to the wine industry. He has a B Appl. Science degree in Oenology from Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. When he’s not working, Digger loves playing golf or cricket, and spending time with his wife, Deb (always) and kids (if they’re behaving!). Corey Hall, Winemaker Corey grew up around the beaches, orchards and vineyards of West Auckland. After gaining a BSC (Chemistry with Geology and Physics) at the University of Auckland in 1996, Corey joined Matua Valley where he worked for 10 years, rising to the position of Chief Winemaker. During this time he graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Graduate Diploma in Oenology and has worked as a winemaker in Australia, France and California. After a decade at Matua Valley, Corey resigned from his position as Chief Winemaker to pursue his dream of making high quality handcrafted wines under his own label. In 2005 together with his wife Meg, they released ‘Gem’ and then they joined forces with the Hennessy family in 2008 to produce Harwood Hall. Corey has conducted numerous tastings with both the trade, and public (in New Zealand, the USA and Australia), and sits regularly on tasting panels in NZ. He has spoken on sponsored radio shows, been promoted by his peers to the position of Senior Judge, judging at the New Zealand International Wine Show and has been Senior Judge and Panel Chair at the Australian Small Winemakers Show. When Corey isn’t working you will find him in one of two places — in the surf or on the golf course. Megan Hall, Director Megan comes from a marketing and design background and brings more than 12 years experience to Harwood Hall. With a keen eye for design, a palate for good wine and a need it now kind of gal, Megan works alongside Digger and Corey to ensure Harwood Hall wines are delivered to you in outstanding shape! When she isn’t working, you will find her at the beach with their girls Pepper & Minnie (and most likely with a glass of wine in hand at the end of the day). Debra Hennessy, Director Born and raised in Queenstown, Debra has a background in hospitality and a keen interest in food and wine. After travelling overseas for several years, she moved to Blenheim and completed a Diploma in Viticulture and Wine Production. She worked in the industry in a laboratory for a while, but after she and winemaker Digger had the first of their three children in 2004, her focus shifted to her family. However, she still gets involved in the wine business with her husband and friends whenever she can.
